Reader Question

I get an incredible number of reader questions via my client EM Home Interior, which is a lot of fun! Here is an example where the issue regards a large living room space that has to redecorates. The floor is of cherry laminate and all walls are painted in white. The room has several windows and a large opening to the kitchen and a smaller to the entrance. There is also a fireplace. The desire is a stylish and minimalistic room, without curlicues.

This is my proposal for the basics: In addition to one sofa, I suggest that they lodge a chaise lounge, too, preferably in a thicker material in a gray color that fits well to the floor. In addition, as an extra seat, I propose a footstool in a light colored fabric. Frame the furniture with a large rug in matching colors and add a round table, preferably with a glass top so you can glimpse the pattern on the carpet. A couple of elegant buffets in black that fills the room also works as key-pieces and at the same time they fits the others furniture very well. A large room like this also need sumptuous curtains, choose a heavy gray fabric that matches the couch. Then it is just the details missing such as a decorative basket for the firewood placed in front of the fire. Add lighting and some color to pillows, throws and other accessorizes.

All products come from EM:

  • Serenade buffet
  • Chaise lounge from furniture series Dialogue
  • Zorrento footstool
  • Basketball mat
  • Ballet coffee table
  • Cecilia curtain
  • Ruby storage basket
